Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced it will offer six units of the Nissan New Mobility Concept for Japan’s first ultra-compact mobility rental car service in Teshima, Tonosho-cho, Shozu-gun, Kagawa prefecture from July 20, 2013, as part of a pilot project for ultra-compact mobility to be conducted on the island.
As one of the projects supported by the “Program to promote ultra-compact mobility” organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the “Teshima Mobility Council” established by Tonosho-cho, SOFTBANK MOBILE Corp., Benesse Holdings, Inc. and the Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles, will provide the new mobility service. Nissan supports this effort by offering the vehicles and operating the rental car service through Nissan Car Rental Solutions Co., Ltd.
The rental car service will begin in line with the start of the Setouchi Triennale 2013 Summer festival to be held on the island from July 20, with six units of Nissan New Mobility Concept offered as rental cars to visitors for their transportation and to provide an opportunity to experience exciting transportation with ultra-compact mobility.
Using the Nissan New Mobility Concept will help revitalize local communities such as Teshima island, where tourism is a key industry, without having any impact on the environment because it emits no CO2 gases while being driven.
The Nissan New Mobility Concept is a car with a whole new concept which realizes efficient, easy-to-use sustainable transportation and creates new value for societies with growing elderly populations and increasing numbers of single-person households, and the use of passenger vehicles for short-distance or small-group drives.
Nissan has been working on a variety of pilot projects in cooperation with local governments and companies, and will continue to promote the creation of new mobility platforms under the Ultra-compact Mobility Certification System by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
