French President Francois Hollande on Monday urged soldiers behind the coup in Burkina Faso to disarm immediately or face the consequences, including possible sanctions.
Hollande asked the putschists "to immediately lay down arms and hand over power to the legitimate authorities or face the consequences."
He said former colonial ruler France could also "apply sanctions to those opposing the holding of regular elections."
