Forty-two people have been killed in the Democratic of Congo in protests against legislation that would extend President Joseph Kabila's rule, the International Federation for Human Rights said Thursday.
The federation said the reaction of the security forces to the demonstrations this week had been "totally excessive and disproportionate". The government says 11 people have been killed including a policeman and 10 people it described as "looters".
