The British government said Tuesday it was offering 30 million pounds in additional humanitarian assistance to support international organizations helping South Sudanese refugees in a number of African countries.
The financial assistance will be directed to support operations of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), the World Food Program (WFP) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), which were providing aid for the South Sudanese refugees in camps in Ethiopia, Uganda, Sudan and Kenya, the Department of International Development said in a statement.
The money will be used to provide food and fresh water, vaccines and other basic needs, it said.
Today's announcement raises to 125 million pounds the British assistance to the people of South Sudan.
The department called on the South Sudanese government and opposition to stop the fighting and resume peace negotiations.
It also urged the international community to provide more aid for tens of thousands of South Sudanese people who fled to neighboring countries.
