Paris - AFP
French catering services giant Sodexo said Wednesday it had clinched a 10-year contract worth about Aus$2.5 billion (1.7 billion euros) with the world's number two miner, Rio Tinto.
Sodexo will provide services to include accommodation, catering and cleaning services, aerodrome and property management and building and grounds maintenance, at Rio's operations in Western Australia's Pilbara region, it said in a statement.
"This is the largest contract of its kind for Sodexo and exemplifies the group's ability to deliver on major contracts in the energy and resources sector," it said.
The French group said Rio Tinto's assets in Pilbara comprised ports, towns, aerodromes, operational sites, accommodation sites, commercial buildings and residential properties.
"It demonstrates the value our unique global footprint and deep sectoral knowledge brings to clients like Rio Tinto, to enhance quality of life for teams operating in challenging environments," Sodexo's chief executive Michel Landel said in the statement.
Sodexo, which serves 75 million people per day, is the 19th biggest employer worldwide and operates in 80 countries.
