Jordan on Monday announced the selection of a Canadian company to develop its Hamzah oilfield in the eastern part of the country.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that two companies bidded but Transeuro Energy Corporation won the tender.
An agreement will be signed early next year with the company to start studies on the development of the oilfield, the ministry said.
When the studies are completed, the government will sign a 15-year concession deal with Transeuro, it said.
Jordan, which imports 97 percent of its energy, is also planning to attract companies to develop Al Risha gas field near the borders with Iraq.
