The Rabat-based telecommunication company, Maroc Telecom, continues its expansion in Western African countries with the acquisition of Etisalat operations in Benin, Côte d’Ivoir, Gabon, Niger, the Central African Republic and Togo.
This acquisition is a milestone in Maroc Telecom’s development as a leading telecommunication operator in Africa with a presence in 10 countries and strong growth potential, Maroc Telecom’s CEO, Abdeslam Ahizoune was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the company.
This deal is also reflective of Morocco’s south-south cooperation policy regarding Africa, Ahizoune said.
Etisalat has agreed to sell its West African operations to Maroc Telecom for 474 million Euros, the same source said.
