The Railway Authority has signed a contract with a Spanish company to conduct studies to upgrade the signal and communication system along the Tanta-Mansoura-Damietta line.
A mechanical signal system is now in place, said authority chairman Ahmed Hamed Wednesday, adding that it will be upgraded to an advanced electronic system.
Hamed put the cost of the studies at about nine billion pounds that will be provided by the Kuwaiti fund.
The studies should be completed in 14 months, he noted.
