Tokyo stocks fell 0.12 percent in the morning session of Thursday following the U.S. Federal Reserve 's policy statement confirming an upcoming interest rate hike.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 21.22 points, from Wednesday to 17,774.51.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 5.86 points, or 0.41 percent, at 1,424. 06.
Major decliners included machinery, shipping and real estate issues.
