The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) estimated that economic losses, from the earthquake which his California on Sunday, could be up to USD 1 billion, reported the New York Times.
Despite the widespread damage, scientists said California was fortunate to escape greater devastation from the earthquake, which exposed gaps in the state’s preparedness.
A magnitude-6.0 earthquake hit the Napa Valley early Sunday morning destroying both opulent and modest homes, rupturing dozens of water and gas main lines and causing injuries to more than 100 people.
