Foreign-backed mercenaries operating in Syria fired mortar shells on Damascus city, killing four people and injuring scores more.

A source at the Police Command said two mortar rounds fell on al-Nejmeh square and al-Hassan street on Wednesday, claiming the lives of two citizens, Al-Manar reported.
Meanwhile, two other civilians were killed and some 20 others wounded due to mortar shells that terrorists fired on al-Amara residential area in Damascus.
Material damage was also reported in the attack.
Mortar shells were also fired on Mhardeh city in Hama countryside, injuring two citizens.
A source in the province said that terrorists fired 3 shells on the residential districts of the Northern neighborhood of Mhardeh city, injuring two citizens who were admitted to hospitals.
Moreover, SANA news agency reported that 226 gunmen from Deir B'albeh, Kfar Abed, Deir M'aleh, al-Hilaliyeh and al-Daar al-Kabera turned themselves in to authorities.
Syria was hit by a violent unrest since mid-March 2011, where the Syrian government accuses foreign actors, mainly the Saudi Arabia and Turkey, of orchestrating the conflict by supporting the militant opposition groups with arms and money.
Today hundreds of armed groups, including terrorist takfiri brigades affiliated with Al-Qaeda, are battling both the national army and each other, complicating any efforts to reach a political settlement.
