Tehran - FNA

The people in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the demise of leader Kim Jong Il in humblest reverence today.
Kim Jong Il was born as the son of President Kim Il Sung at the Paektusan Secret Camp in Northern Korea on February 16, 1942, when the Korea was under the Japanese imperialist colonial rule, according to a statement released by North Korea's embassy in Tehran.
After graduation from the Kim Il Sung University in June 1964, he started his work at the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and displayed his outstanding leadership ability in all fields including politics, military affairs, economy and culture.
He was elected the Chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission in April 1993 and the General Secretary of the WPK in October 1997.
He firmly defended the country’s sovereignty and ushered in a new era of building a thriving nation by developing the country’s military might including the Korean People’s Army (KPA) with his energetic Songun leadership at the end of the last century when the US and its allies intensified the vicious sanctions to isolate and stifle the DPRK more than ever before, added the statement.
He always was among the peoples and devoted his all his efforts to the well-being of the people and national prosperity till the last moments of his life, it added.
He performed the great feats for realizing peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and the cause of global independence.
He passed away due to a sudden illness caused by excessive mental and physical exertions during his trip for field guidance on December 17, 2011.
Now the Korean people are successfully carrying forward his great idea and cause under the tested leadership of Kim Jong Un, supreme leader of the DPRK, the statement concluded.
