Funn, the Sharjah-based foundation dedicated to promoting media arts for children and youth in the UAE, announced the winner of its Ramadan Spirit photography contest, which was organised by the foundation on Instagram during the first three weeks of Ramadan. The competition saw a great response from UAE residents, who showed they were eager to display the atmosphere of Ramadan through their meaningful photos.
The judging panel selected Sarah Abdul Rahman as the winner for her photo that shows the connection between the holy month of Ramadan and the holy Quran. The photo taken is of the Quran next to a crescent moon made up of colourful flowers. The photo was selected due to the quality of the photography and the manner in which it reflects the values and spirit of the holy month and its traditions.
Commenting on the results, Sheikha Jawaher bint Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of FUNN, expressed her delight with the great response to the Ramadan Spirit contest and with the diverse and rich content of this initiative. She said, “It is nice to express our joy of Ramadan and its spiritual and social traditions through photos that represent the various aspects of the holy month. We thank all the contest’s participants and congratulate the winner”.
Adults and children alike responded positively to the competition. They competed in expressing the joy of Ramadan and its traditions through photos taken by their smartphones and professional cameras. The photos submitted highlighted Iftar and Suhoor gatherings, the Iftar cannon, mosque-going, shopping and many more themes.
FUNN was established in November 2012 under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, to promote interest and excellence in the creative and media arts among children and young people in the emirate of Sharjah and the UAE.
FUNN aims to promote and support media arts (animation, film making, graphic design, animation and so on) for young children and youth in Sharjah and the UAE, and to nurture a future generation of creative artists in media and film. It also aims to promote new media work and films made by local children at international film festivals and conferences, in order to foster talent at national and international levels, and to form a network of talented youth that can connect with one another worldwide.
