Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab met on Saturday with Grand Mufti Shawki Allam to discuss the outcomes of the latter's European tour.
Allam told Mahlab that he stressed that Egypt has taken an irreversible decision to fight extremism and terrorism.
The meetings also touched on the role of the religious institutions in refuting extremist ideology, the grand mufti said.
Allam's April tour, which took him to the Netherlands and France, aimed at correcting wrong ideas about Islam and extend bridges of cooperation.
The tour comes as part of strenuous efforts exerted by Darul Iftaa to spread awareness about Islam and clarify misunderstanding among Muslim communities worldwide.
