Challenges of Democratic Transformation in Egypt, various authors, Cairo: CIHRS, 2012.
The Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) release "Challenges of Democratic Transformation in Egypt" compiling a series of papers which were written and presented at a summer 2011 political conference under the same name.
Written by Egyptian writers, thinkers and political analysts, most of the articles tackle the democratic transition since former president Hosni Mubarak's ouster, from a more general perspective.
Key topics covered include the outlook for the Islamist movements and the future of civilian-military relations in the new political system after the ruling military council transfers power over to an elected president.
Among the contributors of the book are writer Ibrahim El-Houdaiby, professors Jaber Nassar and Hazem Hosni, legal expert Nour Farahat, writer Wael Nawara, Al-Ahram strategic studies centre director Gamal Abdel-Gawad, author Samer Soliman and the editor of the book Amr Abdel-Rahman.
