Earlier this year, it was confirmed Sherlock would return to the Victorian-Era in a Christmas special.

This week at Comic-Con, show runner Steven Moffat confirmed the special would be shown in select theaters world wide. The BBC reports while the episode will be set in Victorian London, Sherlock would return to modern day the following episode.

The show, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role and Martin Freeman as Dr. Watson, takes Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock and puts him in modern day London. The episode would be the first time Sherlock would take place in Victorian London since the series began.

USA Today reported the Victorian Christmas special, which was given a special preview at Comic-Con, will air in December 2016.

This isn't the first time Moffat and BBC have taken their show specials to theater, last year Doctor Who went to theaters for the special Day of the Doctor episode which premiered first in theaters before being aired on the BBC.

Neither Moffat nor the BBC have said what theaters will screen the episode or its exact release date.
