Classes at the University of Calgary are over for the winter semester but many students still have finals to write and the school is setting up some options for people in light of the tragic deaths of five young people on Monday.
Three options are being provided for students who are not able to write during their originally scheduled exam time:
1.Use the regular deferral dates: Wednesday, May 14–Friday, May 16
2.Use the alternate exam period which will be Wednesday, April 30–Saturday, May 3
3.Use an extended deferral date, Monday, June 23–Wednesday, June 25
The U of C says students will be assisted on an individual basis if none of the options work for them.
Officials have also simplified the procedure to request an exam deferral.
Enrolment Services will provide extended hours on April 16 and 17, and from the 21 to the 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to assist students with deferral requests and exam related questions.
Students can also email [email protected] or call (403) 210-7625 for more options.
Counsellors will be on hand at the Wellness Centre at the University of Calgary at MSC 370 and support is also available after hours at [email protected] or phone 403-210-9355.
A vigil will be held at the U of C at 4:30 p.m. in MacEwan Hall A and B, led by president Elizabeth Cannon, Student Union President Raphael Jacob, , Graduate Students’ Association President SA Sarah Akierman and two university chaplain.
