The Egyptian initiative on Libya put forward during a ministerial meeting of Libya’s neighbors held in Cairo earlier on Monday underlined support for Libyan state institutions and ending violence immediately, Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri said.
During a press conference held jointly with Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamad Abdelaziz following the fourth Libya’s neighboring countries meeting, Shoukri said the Egyptian initiative was adopted by the meeting.
It is pivoted on the immediate halt of all violent acts in Libya, the start of dialogue among violence-renouncing parties and the abandoning of weapons by militias, he said.
Egypt, the chair of the current round, would address the United Nations Security Council and concerned international bodies on the initiative, he said.
For his part, Abdelaziz thanked Egypt for hosting today’s meeting out of its concern about Libya.
The violence in Libya has negative repercussions on Egypt and other neighboring states, he pointed out.
"Libya is satisfied with the Egyptian initiative translated into the meeting’s final communiqué," he said.
"Although Egypt has been preoccupied with the crisis in Gaza, it still cares about Libyan affairs," he noted.
Responding to a question by MENA, Shoukri said the initiative was adopted by all participants.
