The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) paid tribute to the Algerian journalist, Nadir Bensebaa, who died Friday in a car accident in Zeralda (West of Algiers), and said it was “deeply saddened” by his death.
“The international Federation of Journalists (IFJ) expresses its deep sorrow following the death of the Algerian colleague, Nadir Bensebaa, Friday 8 August after a road accident in Zeralda, Algiers,” said the IFJ communiqué.
“Nadir, 44, worked as office coordinator for the IFJ’s Algerian affiliate, the National Syndicate of Journalists, for ten years and was a committed and highly respected member of the union who fought tirelessly for the rights of journalists and media workers in Algeria,” underlined the source.
“We join with our Algerian affiliate, the National Syndicate of Journalists, on this very sad day to express our deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of our esteemed colleague Nadir Benseba,” said IFJ President Jim Boumelha.
“Nadir was a hugely popular and passionate colleague who was committed to journalists’ rights and freedom and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him,” he added.
Nadir was a graduate of the Institute of Political Sciences and Information (ITFC). He worked for many newspapers such as El Watan (1993) and Le Matin (1995).
He recently launched a new daily, Al Mihwar, and became its director.
