President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi
Cairo - MENA

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s project to develop the Suez Canal has foiled an Israeli plan to establish a waterway that links the Dead Sea with the Red Sea to replace the Suez Canal that connects the Red and Mediterranean Seas, MENA Chief Editor and Board Chairman Alaa Heidar said.
“Israel will find no economic benefit from setting up its proposed canal even if it cooperates with Jordan and Palestine after the development of the Suez Canal is completed,” Heidar said in an interview with “Good Morning, Egypt” on the state TV.
Sisi’s project also thwarts any plots aimed at establishing an alternative Palestinian state in Sinai, he said, noting that ousted president Mohamed Morsi’s canal project was depending on a Qatari funding and was originally planned by the international Zionism.
Sisi attended on Tuesday morning the inauguration of the waterway to be dug alongside the Suez Canal. It is meant to add an extra lane to the Suez Canal, one of the world's most important thoroughfares for trade, in an attempt to increase the number of ships using it each day.
