The Sheikh Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah Journalism Excellence Award Higher Committee Monday said the final ceremony for the sixth season of the competition, sponsored by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, is set for February 16 and that the winners would be announced at the ceremony at Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) at 12 p.m.
Committee Chairman Ayman Al-Ali, also Chairman of the Board of KUNA workers syndicate, said classification and assessment of entries was handled by a specialized committee according to the clear criteria and standards set for the award. Entries fulfilling all criteria were presented to the judges committee, he said, while the rest was excluded.
This time around, he said, there was more attention to youth in media, and two new categories were announced accordingly. There were also meetings and events in several universities to introduce youth to the award and encourage those with talent to present their work for consideration, he noted, which meets the directives of the award patron.
As to participation, he said the committee received six times the number of entries seen last year, particularly from young contributors. This was a result of the great changes and developments to the committee's promotion plan, Al-Ali said
